DIY Planning Checklist

As special and romantic as wedding planning can be, it can also be incredibly overwhelming at times.

12+ Months Before

  • Set a budget and determine the overall vision for your wedding. Work with your partner to create an event that celebrates your love and life together.

  • Start researching and visiting potential venues. Ask locals, search social media, talk to your other preferred vendors about their favorite locations.

  • Begin compiling a guest list. Consider starting with a long list and then narrowing it down over time as needed over time before gathering addresses.

  • Hire a wedding planner or consultant, if desired. An expert may have perfect advice to match your vision and meet your financial goals.

  • Start exploring and booking vendors (photographers, hair & makeup team, caterers, florists, musicians).

  • Begin shopping for your wedding dress or other attire. Keep in mind any time that may be needed for alterations or delivery.

  • Create an inspiration board for decor, dresses, hair & makeup, color palettes, and DIY projects.




9-12 Months Before

  • Walkthrough and book your venue for the ceremony and reception. Many brides book at least 1 year in advance so don’t delay on venue reservations.

  • Schedule engagement photoshoot.

  • Choose and order wedding rings. These are an important detail so order early in case any adjustments are needed.

  • Start collecting addresses, or emails, for guest invitations.



6-9 Months Before

  • Finalize your guest list & send ‘Save the Date’ info. Let invitees know when you’ve settled on a date and location.

  • Order wedding invitations.

  • Finalize and book all remaining vendors.

  • Shop for accessories (jewelry, veil, necklaces, hair extensions and accessories as desired. Bring accessories along when you meet your hairstylist & MUA.  

  • Buy venue and ceremony decorations.

  • Prepare a short list or inspiration gallery for your photographer. Keep a Google Doc you can share or a Pinterest Board.

3-6 Months Before

  • Final fittings for your dress or other attire.

  • Attend in-person hair & makeup trials with your beauty team. Meet with your artists to see how well they can work with you to create a style you love.

  • Make arrangements for accommodations on the night-of. Who is sleeping where before and after? Book any hotels or Airbnb in advance.

  • Start planning guest and wedding party seating arrangements. This will help make sure your final invite list is correct.

  • Order wedding favors, if desired. Order early for bulk orders or customized items!

2-3 Months Before

  • Send out final invitations.

  • Have a cut & color appointment for your hair.

  • Finalize the menu with the caterer.

  • Schedule final fittings.

  • Plan or book transportation for the day-of.

  • Arrange any child or pet care needed day-of.

  • Finalize ceremony details (vows, readings, music, timing, other traditions).

  • Plan relaxation activities for yourself the week-of.

1 Month Before

  • Provide vendors with a contact list and schedule for the day.

  • Confirm the timeline with all vendors.

  • Arrange marriage license and legal requirements.

  • Finalize ceremony details with the officiant, DJ, photographer, & wedding party.

1 Week Before

  • Confirm final details with all vendors.

  • Pick up the wedding attire and have it ready to steam or press.

  • Have a meeting with the wedding planner or anyone coordinating with you, if applicable.

  • Ensure all official marriage documents have arrived.

  • Get your nails painted, if desired.

  • Pack and label decor boxes.

  • Decide who will be bringing the rings to the venue.

Wedding Day

  • Relax.

  • Follow your timeline.

  • Remember to enjoy and cherish every moment with your loved ones!
